The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s Gabe Vasquez and Bethune-Cookman’s Nolan Santos for SWAC Baseball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of non-conference play.
Hitter of the Week – Gabe Vasquez, Texas Southern University
Vasquez batted .556 (10-of-18) in four games with 8 RBIs. He finished the week with 10 hits, five runs, four doubles, three triples and a home run. Vasquez had a 1.278 slugging percentage with his best outing a 4-for-6 performance with three runs and six RBIs versus Sam Houston State on Saturday.
Pitcher of the Week– Nolan Santos, Bethune-Cookman University
Santos led the Wildcats to their third win in a row Saturday night with eight dominant innings against Stetson. He allowed no earned runs while giving up just two hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts. His performance led B-CU to its first shutout of nearby Stetson in the history of the two programs – the two teams had met exactly 100 times previously.
